The Goal of the Game

If you’re looking to have a ball, Roulette is your game. Place your bet, watch the wheel spin, and get paid if the ball lands in your favour.

Understanding the Roulette Wheel and Table

The Roulette Wheel

It has 38 numbers, including 1 through 36, a single zero (0) and a double zero (00).

The Roulette Table

On the table, you’ll find the same numbers you see on the wheel, plus some other options including Even/Odd, Red/Black, and others. Each spot corresponds to a specific payout.

Roulette Chips

With Roulette, you can place your chips on a single spot or in multiple spots. It’s your call.

The Roulette Ball

Once all bets are placed, the wheel is spun and the ball bounces around the wheel until it stops in one of the wheel’s pockets.

How to Play Online Roulette

  1. Find the online Roulette game you want to play (you might find multiple versions online).
  2. Place your chips on the spot or spots you want.
  3. Hit the Spin button to get the wheel moving.
  4. Get paid out based on where the ball stops and how you’ve bet

Placing Bets on the Table

When you sit down to play Roulette, you’ve got options for how to bet and what to bet on.

Inside Bets

These are individual numbers on the table. Each one corresponds to a number on the wheel. When you place an inside bet, you’re betting on where you think the ball will land.

Outside Bets

If you want to bet on a combination of numbers (like all the red numbers or all the even numbers), you’re placing outside bets.

Roulette Odds

Every Roulette bet comes with different odds. You might see odds referred to as 35:1 or 35 to 1. This means that for every $1 you bet, you’ll win $35.

Inside Bets

When you play the inside, the odds of winning are much lower. That’s why the payouts are much higher. A single number pays 35 to 1, but you can bet on multiple connecting numbers at the same time. The more numbers included, the lower the payout.

Straight Up Bet | Payout: 35 to 1

Place a chip on a single number.

Split Bet | Payout: 17 to 1

Bet on 2 numbers by placing your chips on the vertical line between the two numbers.

Street Bet | Payout: 11 to 1

Bet on 3 numbers by placing your chips on the outside border of the 3 numbers.

The Corner | Payout: 8 to 1

Bet on 4 numbers by placing your chips on the corners where all these number touch.

Top Line | Payout: 6 to 1

Bet on the 00, 0, 1, 2, and 3 at the same time by placing your chip on the line where 0 and 1 touch.

Line Bet | Payout: 5 to 1

Bet on 6 numbers by placing your chips on the on the vertical and horizontal line that connect both rows.

Outside Bets

With outside bets, the payouts are lower. That’s because the odds of hitting those numbers are much higher. You can bet on the first 12 numbers, the middle 12, or the final 12. You can also opt to bet on Even or Odd, Black or Red, the first 18 numbers, the last 18 numbers, or a column of numbers.

High Low | Payout: 1 to 1

Bet on 1-18 or 19-36.

Colours | Payout: 1 to 1

Bet on Black or Red.

Even-Odd | Payout: 1 to 1

Bet on Even or Odd

Column Bets | Payout: 2 to 1

Bet on all the numbers in a particular column.

Dozen Bets | Payout: 1 to 1

Bet on the first 12, middle 12, or final 12.

The Bet with The Worst Odds

While betting on 0, 00, 1, 2, and 3 might seem like a good bet, it’s not. The payout is 6 to 1, but the house edge on this one is 7.29%.

Roulette Strategies

Despite winning Roulette strategies that you might have read about, there isn’t a sure-fire way to win all the time. Remember, Roulette is a game of pure chance. It’s 100% random.

Increase Your Odds

If you play the outside, you’ll get paid 1 to 1 on winning bets. While the payoff is lower than betting on a straight number, you have much better odds of hitting that number. Remember, betting on a single number to win comes with a 1 in 38 chance. That’s because there are 38 numbers on the Roulette Wheel (1 through 36, 0, and 00). Want to get rid of one of those zeros? Try European Roulette. With just a single zero to deal with, the odds are slightly better.

Ignore Trend Betting

There’s no such thing as being due for a win. Just because the wheel hit an even number 7 times in a row, it doesn’t mean that the next spin will result in an odd number.

Betting Systems Are Bogus

You might have heard about the Martingale System, a Roulette betting system that tells you to double your bet after a loss. The thought is that if you keep doubling your bet, eventually you’ll hit a win and recoup your money, even after a string of losses. Unfortunately, the only thing this system does is get you closer to losing your money faster than you thought possible. Play responsibly.
