RESPONSIBLE GAMBLING

STATEMENT OF COMMITTMENT

MGE Digital Canada (MDC) recognizes that for most people gambling is a social or recreational activity, something that is fun and entertaining. For others, gambling can cause problems and becomes uncontrollable and is no longer a choice. MDC is committed to educating our employees to recognize problem gambling behaviors and providing patrons with information and resources to help themselves and others.

We will ensure that our advertising and marketing will:
    • Contain a responsible gambling message and/or a toll-free help line number.
    • Reflect generally accepted contemporary standards of good taste.
    • Strictly comply with all jurisdictional standards to make no false or misleading claims or create a suggestion of financial certainty.
    • Not target vulnerable Patrons, including those who have decided to self-exclude.
    • Not target minors.

PLEDGE TO OUR EMPLOYEES

  1. We will educate all employees on responsible gambling.
  2. We will train employees on responsible gambling and provide ongoing refresher training, bulletins, and other informational material. Employee training will highlight the differences between responsible gambling and gambling that is problematic.

TIPS FOR SAFER GAMBLING

  1. BE HONEST WITH THOSE YOU LOVE ABOUT THE TIME AND MONEY YOU HAVE SPENT GAMBLING
Tip: If you find yourself struggling to be honest about what you have spent or how you are spending your time, consider getting some help.
  2. EXPECT TO LOSE AND TREAT ANY WINNINGS AS A BONUS
Tip: Treat gambling just like going to a concert or going out to eat, do not expect to get your money back at the end.
  3. SET A MONEY LIMIT AND STICK TO IT
    Tip:
Have a look at your finances and see how much you could spend without jeopardizing other responsibilities. Click on the following link to understand your Cost2Play.
  4. HAVE OTHER HOBBIES AND INTERESTS
Tip: Make sure that you keep up with other activities, so that gambling does not become your main pastime.
  5. SET A TIME LIMIT AND STICK TO IT
Tip: Decide on a time when you will leave the venue or website, to help you stick to your budget.
  6. QUIT WHEN YOU ARE AHEAD
Tip: Do not assume you are on a lucky streak and keep gambling.

WHEN IT’S NO LONGER A GAME

Problem gambling is any gambling, betting, or wagering that causes family, financial, legal, emotional, or other problems for the individual, their family, or others. Gambling problems can be mild, or quite severe, and can worsen over time.

Are you concerned about a potential gambling problem? Take the ten-question self-assessment:

      1. Have you been preoccupied with thoughts of gambling while doing other things that require your attention?
      2. Have you been restless or irritable when unable to gamble?
      3. Have you hidden your gambling from family members?
      4. Has gambling created conflict and unhappiness in your life?
      5. Have you tried to stop gambling but have not been able to?
      6. Have you gambled to obtain money to pay debts or solve other financial problems?
      7. Have you needed someone else to bail you out of a gambling debt?
      8. Have you ever borrowed money and not paid it back because of your gambling?
      9. Have you been unable to pay bills due to gambling losses?
      10. Have you ever thought you might have a gambling problem?

If you answered ‘yes’ to any of the questions, you may be at risk for developing a gambling problem. The more questions answered ‘yes,’ the greater the likelihood you may have a gambling problem.

SELF-EXCLUSION

Self-Exclusion is a tool you can use if you want to take a break from gambling. It is a commitment you make to yourself by voluntarily agreeing not to gamble for a chosen time. Players electing to self-exclude will have the option for exclusion lasting six (6) months, one (1) year and Five (5) years.

If you would also like to self-exclude at Ontario brick and mortar casino operators, including at our sister property, Fallsview Casino Resort, you must register for self-exclusion through Ontario Lottery and Gaming’s (“OLG”) MyPlayBreak system by emailing Self-Exclusion@olg.ca; calling the OLG Support Centre at 1-800-387-0098; or by visiting https://www.playsmart.ca/finding-help/my-playbreak/new-registrants/

Upon election, Self-excluded players will be immediately logged out of their player account and unable to login for the duration of their exclusion term.  All pending and future bets will be cancelled or voided in accordance with the Terms and Conditions.

NOTE: Although iGO and the AGCO are currently working on a province-wide self-exclusion database, no such database currently exists. As a result, if you self-exclude from PlayFallsview.com, you will be eligible to register and play at other digital gaming and brick and mortar casino sites until you elect to self-exclude through those operators directly.

Once this provincewide self-exclusion database is established, all Players who have self-excluded from PlayFallsview.com will be added to the provincewide list and thereby prohibited from play at all online casinos.

UNDERAGE GAMBLING

The prevention of underage gambling is one of the most important aspects of responsible gambling and it is our policy to exclude from gambling those individuals that have not reached the legal age. The legal age for gambling in Ontario is 19.

For adults with an online gaming account, keep your sign-on information secure and set strong passwords to prevent children from using your account.

If underage persons in your household have access to a computer/smart phone/tablet that is used to access MDC’s website or app, you can use protection software that allows use to limit the websites to which they have access, prevent file sharing, and generally give you detailed control over how underage persons use the internet.

MYTHS ASSOCIATED WITH GAMBLING

Players often believe in false myths regarding gambling. Recognizing gambling myths is an important way to help make smart choices. While this is by no means an exhaustive list of gambling myths, some of the commonly held ones are:

  • A player’s luck changes the more he/she/they gamble(s).
  • If a player increased the value of his/her/their bets, he/she/they will win money back.
  • That a player can have a lucky day.
  • Tracking previous results can help a player forecast the coming results.
  • That a player can develop a special strategy that will help him/her/they win.
  • Knowing a game well will increase a player’s chances of winning.
  • It is not possible to become addicted to something like gambling.
  • To be a problem gambler a player must gamble every day.
  • If a player can afford to gamble, then he/she/they cannot be a problem gambler.
  • Only irresponsible people become addicted to gambling.
  • Problem gambling is easy to recognize.
